The Tale of San-Liu

is one of the prequels to my original series 鸣鞘 Ming Qiao, about the childhood of San-Liu, one of the main characters.

The story takes place during the Spring and Autumn period (770-481 BCE) of China. During this period, Zhou dynasty’s royal control over the various local polities eroded. Regional lords increasingly exercised political autonomy, negotiating their own alliances, and waging wars amongst themselves. It was a chaotic time of war and opportunity. Countless new ideas and political forces emerged, and countless people lost their lives in wars and political struggles.

Epilogue

As an enthusiast of history and archaeology, I realized that what is recorded in widely known East Asian history materials is usually the narrative of the ruling class in a patriarchal society. Historical fiction/romance also usually feature ruling class males as protagonists.

Upon learning about historical documents and artifacts from the Zhou dynasty, many things such as shamanism and women’s political status back then interest me. I realized that there are many different stories buried in the dust. Therefore, I wish to use my knowledge and passion to fill in the gaps and create historical fiction stories from a different perspective.
